the story of loam

Meet the owner & designer behind loam

Who is Zoe? Is she an artist? She likes to think so. Is she a teacher? Sometimes.

I know she doesn't like to talk about herself… and most definitely not in third person. I think she sees herself as a clay-wrangling vagabond.

Her love for clay started when she was just a little spud playing in the mud. About 18 years later her super dope boss let her take a day off to take her first wheel class and she hasn't looked back since. After those classes she decided to quit her job and book a one way ticket to Europe to apprentice under a master potter in Latvia. There she gained experience in working with different clay bodies, glazes and an array of firing methods. Having completed her apprenticeship and spending the better part of a year in Europe she then moved to Austin Texas, where she managed a Tumbleweed Clay Studio and was a kiln tech at Austin Pottery.

In January 2024 the most bizarre thing happened after all that traveling and city living… She started missing Oklahoma.

Remember that super dope boss? Well, they formed an alliance and fast forward 10 months later and that missing Oklahoma turned into packing up her life in Texas and moving back to Southeastern Oklahoma. She hopes to bring even more beauty to the place that inspires her endlessly.
